Sports Massage:
It is ideal to treat injuries and as well as a preventative treatment dealing with the health of muscle and connective tissue, range of movement, tone, symmetry, balance of muscle and quality of posture.
It can be for pre-event for preparation and reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event. Inter-event is usually performed over or around sports attire at sporting events between events such as halftime or between sprints ect. Aspects of sports massage therapy are gaining popularity as useful components in a balanced training regimen. Athletes have discovered that specially designed sports massage promotes flexibility, reduces fatigue, improves endurance, helps prevent injuries and prepares their body and mind for optimal performance.
One of the key benefits of Sports massage therapy compared to other modalities is its ability to target muscle-tendon junctions. A 2010 study in the journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that even a 30-second massage improved hip-flexor range of motion. Another study conducted by Margaret Jones, Ph.D. of the American College of Sports Medicine, demonstrated a notable trend toward decreased muscle soreness in the athletes who received massage either before or after exercise.
For anyone participating in regular physical activity, Sports massage therapy every week or two may be a great addition to your normal regimen. Contact us to find a plan that will work best with your schedule, level of activity and budget.
Kinesiotaping with Rocktape:
RockTape is the world’s best kinesiology tape. It can be used to treat sports and non-sports injuries, including shin splints, plantar fasciitis, runner’s knee and back pain. RockTape microscopically lifts the skin away from the muscle and fascia below, creating a decompressive effect. It also is very effective in relieving edema and bruising.
How it Works / Benefits:
RockTape turns down the volume on pain, more specifically, it runs interference on pain. Ever whack your shin and rub it, and suddenly realize you feel better? RockTape on the skin can interfere with painful signals which are directed to the brain.
When the signals arriving to the brain are altered, it does not produce the sensation of pain. When kinesiology tape is properly applied, many of our customers call it “magic” or think that it fixed their injury instantly. In fact, it helps to change how your body interprets pain, turning down the pain “volume” that your body hears.
Decompresses an area of swelling and inflammation, when RockTape is applied to the skin, it has a microscopic lifting effect underneath the skin and between the many layers. This allows the by-products created by inflammation to be removed more quickly.
It delays fatigue
Research has shown that RockTape on skin can attenuate muscle fatigue. In rehab, this is very important, not only for the parts of your body that are currently hurting, but also for the surrounding areas as they help to pick up the slack for muscles that are currently not working well.
It normalizes muscle tone when someone is injured, fatigued, sick, or inflamed, the symphony of muscle action that normally takes place with great accuracy often falls out of tune. This can happen all over the body. For instance, research has shown that people who sprain their ankle tend to have altered activity of their hip muscle as a result.
RockTape helps bring dormant muscle back to life and help calm down the overactive muscles. It helps your body coordinate movement as if it weren’t hurt, hence allowing it to heal properly.
It distributes physical stress, unlike conventional taping, which prevents movement – RockTape allows full movement of a taped area. Through elastic properties and quick recoil, RockTape can help distribute forces to other nearby areas through the fascia, ligaments, and even bones.

Benefits for Edema:
Kinesiology taping is a simple, comfortable and effective treatment for both edema and lymphedema. A special configuration called fan taping involves applying strips of tape with a solid end and multiple, narrow “tails” directly over an area of swelling. The tape gently lifts the skin over the affected area, creating a negative pressure that allows excess fluid to drain away through the lymphatic vessels. Edema taping applications are typically worn for 3-5 days at a time, continuing their therapeutic benefits the entire time they’re worn.
General Info on Edema:
Edema is the medical term for swelling. It is characterized by a buildup of fluid in a localized area. Edema can be caused by trauma such as injuries or surgery, or by medical conditions like heart disease, kidney disease or allergic reactions. Many women also develop edema in the feet and legs during pregnancy. Lymphedema is a severe form of edema caused by damage, blockage or removal of lymphatic vessels or lymph nodes. The most dangerous form of edema is deep vein thrombosis (DVT), caused by a blood clot in a vein.
